MiniMeters: Selecting an Audio Input

Once MiniMeters is installed, the next step is to select the audio device you would like MiniMeters to monitor. Each operating system has different capabilities.

Open Settings: Click the Settings button in the toolbar in MiniMeters.

Select The Device: In the “Audio Source” area you can select which device you would like to monitor:

The most commonly selected option is Default Output Capture. MiniMeters will attempt to capture the output of your computer.

On macOS 13 Ventura - macOS 14.1 Senoma, "Default Output Capture" is not available. Instead, it is called "Desktop Audio" in MiniMeters and uses Apple's ScreenCaptureKit API. More info is found on the Audio Routing (macOS) page.

Windows users may experience issues with Default Output Capture when an ASIO driver is selected in another application. To fix, either switch your DAW to use WASAPI, DirectSound, or use the included Audio Server plug-in from within your DAW.

Audio Server Plug-In:

It is also possible to send audio directly from your DAW directly into MiniMeters using the included Audio Server plug-in.

Insert the Audio Server plug-in: Open your DAW of choice and insert "MiniMeters - Audio Server" on the main channel in your project.

Select Audio Server as the input:: Select "Audio Server (Plug-In)" from the audio device list inside of MiniMeters.

Note: MiniMeters’s individual meters may appear frozen if the Audio Server plug-in is not inserted when this is selected. However, MiniMeters itself is not frozen and can still be interacted with.
